Welcome to the website for the Tree-Ring and Archaeological Wood Analysis (TRAWG) Laboratory at University of Georgia. Our lab investigates human interactions with climate and the environment, primarily using dendrochronology (tree-ring science), stable isotope analysis, and wood anatomical analysis of materials from modern forests, cultural heritage and archaeological sites, and paleoecological contexts.

We examine wood materials from sites worldwide, with specialization in wooden heritage from the East Mediterranean (particularly Cyprus, Greece, and the Levant); Indigenous and historical sites in the Northeast US and Canada; and underwater and maritime heritage sites, such as wooden shipwrecks and harbor infrastructure. We are also developing dendrochronological research on heritage sites (old houses and maritime wooden heritage) here in Georgia as part of UGA student research.
